UCD Marian victors in all Dublin semi
UCDMarian were the victors in a closely fought mens U20
semi-final with great defence on Killester star Keith Anderson the key to their
victory.
Killester got off to the better start with Anderson in unstoppable form
hitting 12 in the first quarter. UCDMarian, while they were a bit sluggish
to begin with were more balanced and their scores were coming from right
around the floor through the James twins Conor and Daniel and assisted by Paddy
Young. At the end of the quarter Killester led by 18 points to 12.

In the second quarter Marian got to grips defensively with
Anderson and the James twins restricted him to just two points. He
got some assistance though, as Alan Casey stepped up with 6 points and
Westbrooks, McMeel and Hennebry all got on the score sheet. For Marian,
Herron came alive with 8 points and Daniel James made two big threes and
two more baskets as they turned their deficit into a five point lead, 37 to 32
at half time.

Early in the third Anderson hit a three but Conor James immediately responded with one of his own. Eric Westbrooks made two baskets and Casey made another as Killester rallied. Paddy Young hit a three for Marian and Shane Egan made two clutch buckets to keep the lead at five, 50 to 45 at the end of the third quarter.
The game was tight all through the fourth quarter with Killester tying it up through a big three point play from Casey and a bucket from McCormick. Paddy Young responded with a three for Marian. Casey made two more baskets on the inside, being well found by Anderson who was tied up by Conor James.

Marian made the crucial scores through Daniel James with a three and a superb three point play from Young. Try as they might Killester could not respond and Conor James made four from four at the foul line as the clock ran out to seal victory for the students. Coach Niall Meany was delighted with the victory "They are a great team who work really hard for each other and I am really delighted that they got the victory they deserved today".
