M.V.P. MURIOSA GALWEY - MUSTANG SALLY'S ST. PAULS KILLARNEY

The regional ladies was the familiar clash between St. Paul’s and St. Mary’s, the sides, well familiar with each other now having met recently in both National league and cup.

St. Paul’s dominated the first half winning majority of ball under the boards. Carolyn O’Mahony was first to register a score when she made two from the free throw line.  Teammate Catriona O’Connell added two more for Paul’s before St. Mary’s Jennifer O’Connor made a basket for the home team, three and a half minutes into the game. Catriona O’Connell went to the free throw line and made one.  Muriosa Galwey made a three from well outside to give St. Paul’s a five-point lead.  St. Mary’s were having difficulty-winning ball under the boards and were not getting the opportunity to get shots off.

Carolyn O’Mahony made another basket for St. Paul’s, which was responded to by a much-needed score from Eileen O’Connor. Mairead Finnegan made a good score from an awkward angle under the boards while Muirosa Galwey added another point from the free throw line before Eileen O’Connor set Una O’Mahony up for a much needed basket and a bonus point just before half time.

St. Paul’s held a six point lead going into the second half, the Killarney side who appeared to be hungrier for the win made two quick steals and made three more point from the free throw line before St. Mary’s Jennifer O’Connor added two free throws for Castleisland.  Una O’Mahony was working hard for St. Mary’s but was unlucky with her shot attempts.  Mustang Sally’s were now nine points ahead but for the next two and a half minutes they did not managed a score and St. Mary’s reduced the deficit to six points with 4.24 remaining.  Caolyn O’Mahony then mad a point from the free throw line.  Sandra O’Connor made an offensive rebound, shot, rebounded and scored for St. Mary’s leaving just five points between the sides but Muirossa Galwey who deservedly won MVP for the game sealed the win for St. Paul’s by netting a basket and bonus.  Final score was 21 points to 13 in favour of St. Paul’s.
