Oh I wish it could be Christmas every day.....

Liz Galwey

I'm quiet confident in saying that there could be no place else in this world that gives such pleasures at Christmas as Castleisland does. We enjoy the build up, the spiritual ceremonies, the sheer joy of giving and receiving gifts, the wonder of Santa and then, just when you think it is over..........St. Mary's Basketball Club give you five more action packed days of bliss.Forget New York "Fairytale of Castleisland"

Somehow this year in Castleisland it feels as though it is "Christmas everyday" with the continued growth and success of the club and the addition of our Regional League teams who have regular home games who bring that "Christmas" feeling to the centre frequently. Yet nothing can compare to the real feeling of the Blitz. It is a feeling of unity, remembrance and dedication.

Believe it or not, most of the work for the big event has been done by now, the names are in, the teams are picked and we can promise that once again it will be fantastic 5 days.

As always, we look forward to the thrills and excitement of the games from our Premier League section right down to our national school kids, which always prove to be the most entertaining.

This year we will have 193 games, 160 teams, 27 competitions and 1,490 players, beginning at the crack of dawn and going on until late evening. Division four ladies are a new addition to the blitz and rumour has it that it will be a highly competitive section and all teams have set their sights on the "first title".

We are indebted to our sponsors, the players, the committee of the Community Centre and St. John's, those who come out of the woodwork to lend a hand each year and of course the Media who are wonderful to us not only during the tournament but also the entire basketball season,

Go raibh míle agaibh go léir agus Nollaig Shona,
